New Substitute For Latex Gloves
March 17th, 2011

Hevea latex from the Maylasian Rubber Tree, with 9 of its 250 Proteins having been demonstrated as allergenic, has been responsible for a number of allergic reactions especially among health care workers and individuals who have had multiple surgeries. Yulex Corporation of southern California now has a process to produce a hypoallergenic latex from the Guayule plant, which is indigenous to the southern U.S. and northern Mexico, and has 10-30 times fewer proteins. Latex sensitive people tested so far have not cross reacted. These gloves should arrive on the market next year.
